Grizzly Streamer

One of my own patterns but it’s so simple that I’m sure there has been exactly the same kind of patterns around. If you know a name and a bit of history for it let me know.

It’s tied in the spirit of Carrie Stevens but the proportions are a bit closer to the traditional Finnish streamers. When tying the body pay close attention to your threadwraps  as the tinsel will be easier to tie to a smooth surface. For the wing I use feathers from the lower sides of my Keough dry fly capes, they’re really dense and have a nice shape. Flatten the stems of the wingfeathers and Teal before tying them on to get them more easily to correct position. Also try to get as soft Bucktail as possible for the belly of the fly.

Hook: Long Shank Streamer hook (ex. Daiichi 2271)
Body: Flat Silver Tinsel
Wing: Two pairs of Grizzly hackle feathers
Belly: Natural White Bucktail
Hackle: White Hen
Sides: Teal and Jungle Cock
Head: Black
