Pink Bucktail Deceiver

I’ve been fishing for sea trout quite a lot this fall and the common choice here is different kinds of streamers for them. This sort a miniature version of one of my pikeflies has been on the end of my line quite a lot in couple different color combinations.

Bob Popovics’ book Pop Fleyes was quite a big hit in Finland and has affected tremendously on how we tie flies today for pike and sea trout which are the species we fish for in the Baltic Sea. This pattern has a lot in common with the typical Bucktail Deceiver and because of that I’m not going to name it otherwise.

On these small sizes it’s light to cast, doesn’t tangle easily and has good profile and enough movement in the water. Only thing missing is the massive sea trout biting on it. I must add that most of my color combos are pretty natural looking but I liked the photo of this more bright pattern and they are known to work well too.

Hook: #2 Partridge Universal Predator
Tail/wing: Bucktail in pink and fl. pink. Tied on the back, middle and front of the hook gradually tapering to front.
Body: Some light pink Antron and any pearl dubbing mixed together. Brushed out heavily after the fly is finished.
Flash: Clear Gliss n’ Glow lightly on top of the bucktail.
Collar: SLF Hanks in Brown, Pink and Fl. Yellow, placement as in the photo.
Head: Eyes to suit your pattern. Then two coats of Bug Bond or similar UV resin and one coat of Cellire varnish to finish it off.
Use black permanent marker to add the stripes.
