Orange Heron
One of the most famous Syd Glasso patterns that he used especially for winter Steelhead in the Pacific Northwest. I use featherwinged streamers quite a lot for Trout so I really like the idea of using them on salmonflies too. The trick is not to tie the wing flat on top of the hook but to tie the feathers a bit on the sides to form a wider wing. It will have more movement in water and lift the hook better in the current. The oval rib is tied over the hackle which is wound on the opposite direction to make it much sturdier.
Ribs: Oval and flat silver tinsel.
Bodyhackle: Grey Heron (substitute with Blue Eared Pheasant or similar)
Body: First half orange Floss and orange Seal fur for the rest.
Hackle: Teal
Wing: 2-3 pairs of orange hackle tips.
