The MacGyvers fly tying camp
On the last weekend of January we kept the shop closed for the Saturday and headed to Porvoo with the gang that included myself, Mikko Stenberg, Anton Pousar, Teemu Juutinen and Ari-Heikki Rintaniemi. This was our second annual get-togehter where we had rented a cabin and would go there for a weekend to relax and tie some classic salmon flies.
One focus for us has been learning to tie classics in hand without the aid of a vice and we did practice it again with the Erin-Go-Braghs. The main focus this year however was on the Shannon which is a full feather wing and none of us has tied a lot of this type of flies. It was quite a challenge even in the vice and we took our time on it but the results were much better than I had expected.
Teemu fixed us again a spectacular dinner and the sauna felt good after a long day of tying. The other flies tied on Sunday were Little Kelly and Pitcroy Fancy from The Salmon Fly.
Great friends, good food and classic flies. What more could you ask for?
