Griffith’s Gnat
A good all-round fly when imitating small insects like midges. It works best in my opinion on hooks from #18-22 but many say it works on smaller sizes as well down to #32. I tied this one on a #16 TMC 100 for photographic purposes and I’ve caught fish with it even on size 12 but that large size sort of makes it another fly closing in on a shorter hackled Skater.
Griffith’s Gnat was invented by one of the founders of Trout Unlimited, George Griffith.
Make sure to look at the other photos for a nice closeup of the Peacock herl body.
